In certain cases of breast cancer, the solution to prevent the disease from affecting other organs is to remove one or both affected breasts – in other words, a mastectomy. There are different techniques for recreating the breast, otherwise known as postmastectomy breast reconstruction. Certain procedures are fairly simple, while others are more complex. It is essential to have clear, adequate information on all the techniques that can be performed on each patient, so as to decide on the best option. Breast reconstruction can be performed both at the time of the mastectomy surgery and afterwards.
