TUBEROUS BREAST AUGMENTATION STEP BY STEP:
Who can have tuberous breast augmentation surgery?
Any woman who, once she is fully developed, is affected by this malformation is a candidate for tuberous breast augmentation surgery or tubular breast correction.
This type of breast is characterised by a tubular or conical shaped breast, large areola in proportion to the breast, constriction of the lower pole, empty upper pole, spacing between breasts (no volume in the cleavage), raised submammary fold and/or herniated areola. It is also often associated with breast asymmetry and hypoplasia (very small breasts).
This malformation, which often causes problems of self-esteem in women, may be associated with breast asymmetry and sagging breasts.
Tuberous breast augmentation surgery
This surgery is technically more complicated than a breast augmentation and, therefore, requires the experience and skill of the surgeon. During surgery, work must be performed on the size of the breast and to modify the shape of the mammary gland to achieve the required morphology and appearance: widening the base of the breast and redistributing the volume of the breast. A breast implant is then inserted to give greater volume and improve any existing asymmetry.
Sometimes, where the breast sags somewhat, a mastopexy with implant might be advised for optimum results.
Breast implants in tuberous breasts
The breast implants used in this type of surgery are the same as those commonly used in breast augmentation surgery. They are made of state-of-the-art, high quality cohesive silicone gel, which are the safest. You will decide, along with your surgeon, as to what the breast implant to be used in your case will be like, not only in terms of volume but also of profile, projection, shape, surface, etc. There are many types of breast implant and choosing one or another will determine the ultimate shape of the breast. In the case of asymmetry, the volume of both implants might also differ.
Your plastic surgeon will advise you on all these aspects for a more attractive, natural result. You will find more information on breast implants in this article.
Methods of inserting breast implants in tuberous breast augmentation surgery
When the plastic surgeon must modify the shape of the mammary gland for optimum results. The approach used will be transareolar, making a decision around the areolar right where the skin changes colour. This means that the scar will become invisible over time.
Duration, anaesthesia and hospitalisation for tuberous breast surgery
Tuberous breast correction via breast augmentation is a relative short surgery. It normally takes one and a half to three hours, depending on each case and whether a breast lift or mastopexy is required. General anaesthesia is used, and an overnight stay at IM CLINIC is recommended.
The results of tuberous breast augmentation surgery
Breast remodelling resulting from tubular breast correction surgery normalises the breast anatomy to give women attractive, symmetrical, well positioned and balanced breasts.
Almost all the inflammatory process will have disappeared after one month, although overall evolution until the patient is finally stabilised will take around six months.
The swelling disappears almost completely after around one month. This is when the breasts will begin to look more natural. However, there will still be small changes until the process ends, which is more or less six months after surgery.
Recommendations after tuberous breast augmentation
You will have drainage for the first two days to reduce swelling and postoperative discomfort. Depending on your progress, this will be removed during your first check up or later on. The stitches will be removed one week to ten days after surgery.
You will wear a breast support band and a special bra for the first month after tubular breast augmentation surgery. It is important not to wear any other kind of bra other than those recommended.
During the initial visit to your plastic surgeon, you will be told when to start with postoperative therapy treatment with our specialist therapists who will help you recover better and faster.
You can resume your social life a few days after surgery. Going back to work will depend on your job.
POSTOPERATIVE CARE: AFTER TUBEROUS OR TUBULAR BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY
You can return to a normal diet after surgery. However, try to eat smaller meals more often for the first few days until your rhythm of digestion has returned to normal.
Once the drainage has been removed, you can shower normally but being particularly careful with your incisions. It is important to dry them properly. We advise applying cold air (never hot!) from a hair dryer.
You will be wearing a special bra after breast augmentation surgery, which you must wear with a band during the first month after surgery. This will depend on your recovery.
You will have your first visit to check your drainage 48 hours after surgery. Your plastic surgeon will assess your case and decide whether to remove it or wait a few more days.
If you smoke, you should try to stop before your breast augmentation surgery. This will improve your health and your healing capacity.
POST-TUBEROUS BREAST AUGMENTATION FAQs
Will I feel any discomfort after tuberous breast augmentation surgery?
It is normal to feel a certain amount of tightness or discomfort for the first one to three days. All this can be controlled with the medication prescribed by your doctor.
When will I first be able to see the first changes in my breasts?
You will be able to see how the volume and shape of your breasts have changed immediately. However, you will have to wait for around one month to see the results of the surgery. It normally takes six months to see the final results.
Is swelling and bruising normal after breast augmentation surgery?
This procedure is entirely normal and may last for up to one month post-surgery.
It is possible for one breast to recover before the other?
Yes, recovery is not normally the same for both breasts. It is therefore likely that one breast is more swollen or uncomfortable than the other. This is completely normal procedure.
